Numbers only for sequences
Use numbered markers (01, 02, Step 1) only for steps people follow in order.
Draft — not yet reviewed by a maintainer
Why it matters
Numbers promise an order. On things that can be read in any order they add noise and send readers looking for a progression that isn't there.
How to check it
For each numbered marker: does order matter to the user? If not, drop the numbers.
The default it guards against
Three feature cards labelled 01, 02 and 03 that could be read in any order.
Library items that apply it
No library item applies this rule yet. Items list the rules they follow in their taste notes, and this page picks them up automatically.
Where it comes from
- docs/v1.2/plan.md §4 (tells: numbered markers only for real sequences)
- design.md §14 (tells to avoid)
